Big Eurasian Editorial Meeting

19.05.2026 15:48:01
– Which issues of your country’s domestic and foreign agenda, which national civic initiatives and specific upcoming events, in your view, should attract the attention of foreign media in order to fully demonstrate your country’s role and contribution to the development of multilateral relations and the growth of mutual understanding between peoples?

– Türkiye, by virtue of its unique geographical position, deeply feels the impact of all global developments, while the regional role it plays in the resolution of crises generates outcomes with global significance. In today’s environment—marked by the formal end of Pax Americana and the transition from a “rules-based order” to a “power-based order”—Türkiye stands as a potential leader of the emerging world. Its military capabilities, economic scale, extensive human capital, and historical and cultural ties extending across multiple regions reinforce this position.

In Türkiye, numerous initiatives and events are organized each year—particularly under the leadership of the Vatan Party—with the aim of promoting Eurasian unity. Closer engagement by international media with these initiatives would contribute to strengthening our collective capacity to develop coordinated responses to the threats facing our continent.

– What stereotypes about your country are currently widespread in public opinion in other states? How can journalists and media from other countries help to debunk these stereotypes and promote a relevant, modern image of your country?

– In recent years, particularly in Western media, all of Türkiye’s cross-border activities have been characterized as “expansionism,” with contemporary security concerns being dismissed through selective historical references. Historically, however, the Turkish people have not only been implementers of international rules but also their architects. They have remained firmly committed to the principle of equity and have shown the utmost respect for the sovereignty of other states.

Law enforcement operations conducted in Türkiye are likewise being politicized. Paradoxically, Türkiye is targeted precisely because of its efforts to combat money laundering, narcotics trafficking, and corruption.

Türkiye’s counterterrorism operations are also portrayed in the West as “ethnic cleansing.” In reality, the Republic of Türkiye is the successor state to a multiethnic empire and possesses a long-standing tradition of enabling diverse ethnicities, religions, and cultures to coexist. With the Republican Revolution, Türkiye completed its nation-building process and has since served as a compelling model for countries across the region.

Owing to its geopolitical position, Türkiye is often defined solely through the lenses of war, migration, and security challenges, while its social and cultural dynamism is largely overlooked. Yet to understand Türkiye is to engage with the richness of seventy-seven distinct cultures.

– What is your attitude toward the idea of creating a single Eurasian information space? In what formats, in your opinion, can and should interaction between media from different countries be developed? Do you have experience of international cooperation with journalists and editorial offices from other states? How useful and important has this experience been?

– The sharing of knowledge across Eurasia is of critical importance. Mechanisms can be developed among our media institutions to facilitate the exchange of information, documents, footage and visual materials. To effectively combat disinformation and fake news, a rapid communication network can be established. Joint activities and conferences on press ethics may be organized, and award ceremonies can be held. In addition, joint training programs that enable our professionals to share their experiences would be highly beneficial.

– In your opinion, does an “ideal media outlet” exist in today’s world, and is it possible in principle? Could you name a publication or a specific journalist (from any era) who, in your view, has an impeccable reputation and authority?

– In our assessment, Aydınlık Newspaper occupies a unique position by virtue of its 105-year history, its unwavering commitment to truth, its distinctive journalistic capabilities, and its standing on the side of humanity. Additionally, Ulusal Kanal television, which is part of the same media group as Aydınlık, is one of the top three most-watched channels on YouTube worldwide.
